International Students: Welcome to Malaysia!

In welcoming the new batch of international students to Taylor’s College, the International Office (IO) of TCSJ organised an International Student Pre-orientation Briefing and City Tour in January.

Being in a foreign country can be difficult for international students who come from different parts of the world such as Myanmar, Japan, Tanzania, China, Iran, Tunisia, Canada, Korea and Bangladesh among others. The tour is aimed at not just welcoming them to Malaysia but also allow them to get familiar with the culture, systems and more.

Held on 11 January 2013, the Pre-orientation Briefing was conducted with the participation of 16 new international students. To make them feel at ease, they participated in an ice-breaking activity with some of the current students, allowing them to get to know one another and begin their social network. They were also introduced to the ‘Buddy System’ – a social system to assist new students adapt by having a senior student as a buddy.
 

Aside from this, they were also briefed on important matters such as visa, healthcare, insurance and a topic that enlightened them about the Malaysian culture. Next, they were taken on a tour of the surrounding areas of the campus (Subang Jaya, SS15) to get acquainted with the facilities, amenities and the transportation system.
 

On 19 January, the students were then taken to a City Tour that covered some of Kuala Lumpur’s iconic tourist destinations such as KLCC and the Kuala Lumpur Craft Complex. Besides that, students also were given the chance to visit KL Sentral and also Taylor’s University.
